We live in love
with our wondering

what it is we are
and how we can quiet our moaning.

In the cavern we hear the echoes of our voices,
and it is the echoes that are real, my friend.

Joy comes from virtue, some would say,
betraying to the world
their desire for an equation...

When I had a child I realized I had been keeping all my hope

in a trunk beside the bed,
a locked trunk called selfishness.

I put a man in that trunk and pushed him over Niagara Falls
just to see if he lived.

I am not saying I know how to live life. I do not.
All one has to do

to know this
is to watch me. It is obvious I have no idea what I’m doing.
